What is Inner Child Healing Therapy? – In our childhood, we often experience negative events or experiences which were too much for us to handle or we were so innocent that we did not even realize that the experience is negative! All humans experience trauma or to say negative or unwanted events and experiences during their life to varying degrees. Unprocessed trauma can create problems in life later, so trauma must be processed. This trauma could be anything from emotional abuse to physical abuse to neglect or abandonment. Inner child healing is a process of healing the negative or unwanted events and experiences of childhood or anytime during our past so that we can address the issues that are holding us back.
Inner Child Healing can be done through taking sessions with a therapist, or even by doing self work and self healing such as journaling, art therapy, meditative processes. However in my experience a combination of therapy and self work is the fastest way to resolve past issues or trauma. This process can be incredibly liberating and transformative.
Negative experience in childhood impacts a person physically, emotionally and mentally in adult life. It may create reactive response or dysfunction in adult life which are inappropriate. Coping by denial, discounting or forgetting painful experiences is not a resolution to reactive and dysfunctional responses during adult life. What starts as a survival behavior during childhood may result in dysfunctional, immature and destructive behavior as an adult. Parts of child gets locked in trauma and is frozen and does not grow up. The adult no longer knows what he/she really feels or wants in adult life. Inner Child Healing integrates the disconnected and frozen parts of childhood to make the individual whole and authentic. Reframing and healing of the past events or experiences neutralizes the charges of the past wounds making possible to lead a peaceful life.
